" In life, there are two kind of destinies: those that open new paths through the great forest of life  and those that merely follow."

(Ahmadou Kourouma)

Our Mission

Our mission at Within West Africa  is to help people learn more about West Africa and to approach the cultures of the African continent with a new perspective, by embracing values of global citizenship, interculturalism, and inclusivity.

By exploring this website, adults and educators, students and children, independently or in groups, will rise above the misinformation and misunderstanding that surround Africa by learning about current events, literature, art, music, geography, fashion, and much more.

Through the media, many have experienced a very limited perspective:  the crises and poverty, on the one hand, or the visual and natural splendor, on the other, of a continent that has for centuries been exploited for its natural resources and “human capital” through slavery and colonialism.  It is time to learn about Africa’s dynamic history, its cultural richness, its spiritual and intellectual genius.

With over fifty-four countries and over 1,500 languages, Africa is the most genetically and linguistically diverse continent on the planet.  Open your eyes to the “cradle of civilization” and to the up-and-coming region of the 21st century.

WITHIN WEST AFRICA integrates various educational materials, links, and resources in its platform, and acknowledges the sources in the last page.
